ABS brakes pulsating at low speed (almost to a complete stop), especially when turning)

Asked by Steve Nov 11, 2007 at 01:31 PM about the 1995 Lexus ES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I come almost to a complete stop the ABS will start to pulsate mildly. It does it especially when turning, it does not do it all the time when going straight.
The ABS light was on for about a month  and I had the RF sensor replaced, which turned the light off. Since replacing the sensor, it has started having this problem.

Well, I would say that it might have something to do with the sensor being installed 100% correctly. On the other hand, it could be your tires. I had some tires on my SVT that were losing their grip, and the ABS started pulsing in the pedal slightly when coming to a stop. New tires and the problem was solved.

Yes, it could be related to the tires, or it could also be low brakes causing the ABS to pulsate. As 18T suggests, was the sensor put in correctly? You might also have a problem with the ABS control unit.

I noticed that the old sensor was tight in the mounting hole, but the new sensor went in rather easy. I took it back out and cleaned it and the hub, the problem is still there. I noticed that the opposite side (LF) sensor wire is tight. The dealer didn't say anything about the LF being bad.

mine was the ABS control unit and the best price I could find with installation was $1000.00. Anybody know a better way or price?
