Timing belt question

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While driving down the highway at about 60 mph I notice white smoke coming out of the hood of my 2001 Lexus es300. After just a mile or so I heard some clicking sounds and then the engine died. Coasted into a service station and discovered that the hose had come loose from the radiator and I lost all the coolant. I let it cool down and refilled it with water, that's all I had. Tried to start the car, and the starter would turn, but the engine would not turn over. A friend said it jumped time. Had it towed home and is now sitting in my driveway. Any thoughts or suggestions as to what may have happened? Don't know why the hose came off the radiator.

Drove it a mile or so after you saw the white smoke coming out of the hood? I doubt it's a timing issue. Might be as Tom stated that everything got wet and needs to dry out. But how hot did it get? A mile of driving without any coolant in radiator could be fatal to an engine. Check your oil. Does it look like a milkshake? Is there oil or gas smell in your radiator now? If still does not start today I would pull and inspect the spark plugs. Are they real wet and smell like coolant? Hope this ain't the case but you might have ran it too hot and blew a head gasket.

Sounds like you might have blew the head gasket by running it to hot.
