I have a gear problem

Asked by Israel Sep 16, 2016 at 02:56 PM about the 2002 Lexus ES

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello. I recently bought a 02 es300 and i realizes that from switching from neutral to drive it goes straight to gear 4 and skips drive. Will driving the car under the 4rpm still be damaging my car or as long as I stay under the 4rpm it is not a problem?

Hi On the dashboard where it shows the gears, the D does not work. When I put it in drive, it shows it as 4. I am not sure if the problem is caused by the gears, where the drive gear does not work or if the problem is just on the dashboard and it is showing the wrong gear. If drive does indeed not work and the car is operating on 4 when it should be on D is it harmful to the car? thanks for your assistance
