I bought a new battery, installed it and put
the cables backwards. Now it won't start.
Permanent code p1682.....what do I do?

That code pertains to the ignition circuit and/or the engine computer, which would imply you blew a circuit to the ECM or ignition module. Check all your fuses are intact and then check the fusible links are still good. (Google what and where your fusible links are.)
