2016 Chevrolet Malibu Radio/Phone problems

Asked by cyclonesteve Aug 11, 2016 at 09:53 AM about the 2016 Chevrolet Malibu

Question type: General

I bought my 2016 Chevrolet Malibu in November. It's been a daily struggle
since day one with the radio/phone system. Now I get everytime I get in the
car this notice.
Phone book update failed.
Whenever I ask the dealership for help they tell me it's my iphone.
Same phone since November, same car, now the phone book update fail is
blurted out every time I start the car.
I hate the car, I hate the dealership. I will never buy a car with all this blue
tooth/ phone synch crap ever again.

I just figured it out just now! It was a setting on my iPhone 7+ in my 2015 Equinox. In your Bluetooth screen settings..click on the item ( i with a circle around it) connected to Bluetooth and in that screen there was an option for “sync contacts” that I had off. I switched it to on and then turned my car off let it sit for a few minutes and then turned it on and IT WORKED! i’ve been listening to this “phone book update failed” message for MONTHS!

I had the same issue. On my iPhone I turned OFF Bluetooth. Then each time I I started the car I would get an audio blast of "Phone book update failed." Then on my iPhone I turned the Bluetooth back ON. The audio blasts from my radio stopped. A simple fix. On your iPhone have the Bluetooth feature turned ON.

Try to unpair your phone and repair it. And it might work

Hi i have Chevrolet cruze 15 model how i can get rid of on star when ever i turned off my car it start speaking and it speaks twice

I upgraded to the latest iPhone 13Pro Max and then got the loud, "Phone book update failed," every time powering up the car. I unpaired the phone with the car's setup menu and repaired it to the iPhone. Accepted the pairing code on the iPhone and the problem was solved.
