95 ford ranger 5 speed

I went town the other day my truck started to
hesitate and jerking for no reason the hesitating
starts when i take off from a stop light but runs
perfect when i have it in neutral then it runs fine it
seem to do it more when i press on the gas and
when im driveing it jerks and acts like it going to
shut off but dosent could that be cause the timing
belt not 100% in time it only off 2 or 3 teeth could
be be lossing it compression over a few months or
is it something else

Normally if you have a skip under load it's a tune up/ ignition problem such as plug wires breaking down or worn out plugs.
