Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2015 Jeep Patriot transmission "kicks" or makes a thud at intervals, for no apparent reason. What could be causing that?

Check fluid levels if its in closed transmission bring it to the shop to check the level first Then the clutch for sliping And or the torque converter could be the issue thats my best guess

We have the same issue with our 2012 Patriot and all Internet signs point to undersized CVT transmission (closed/factory sealed/can't add or remove or change fluid) in the Patriots. Consensus is you have to live with it until transmission dies and replacing the transmission (with same CVT) just starts the process over. and costs $3,500-5,000. (And be careful pulling into traffic because it may stall or hesitate leaving you vulnerable to oncoming traffic.)
