Chevy Camaro shuts down unexpectedly

Asked by Dec 01, 2015 at 08:15 PM about the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My granddaughter has a 2015 Chevy
Camaro 6cyl. Automatic. She has
had the car in the dealership 3 times
for an issue that the car will simple
shut off while driving down the road.
The dealership cannot find the
problem. The way she puts it. "It's
like someone hit a killswitch"
This can be dangerous if the car
does it in the expressway. Any help
will be much appreciated

When the vehicle shuts off will it start right back up or turns over but will not start or no nothing at all like the battery is completely drained ?

That is a safety issue and I would put it that way to the dealer. Make them take the car back or give you a loaner until the problem is solved. I would take it up with Chevy directly.

Sounds like it's time to talk to your lawyer about invoking your rights under the Lemon Law. The Lemon Law varies State to State but the principle is same. If you buy a new vehicle and there's something wrong that can't be fixed within a reasonable amount of times and attempts the dealer has to buy back the vehicle! Especially in your case where it's a safety issue. What if it dies on train tracks or in the middle of a busy intersection. I'd be done playing with this brand new car! HTH. -Jim

If possible try a different dealership.

Have tried different dealership and they have not been able to find an issue when running diagnostic. When the car just dies in the road she puts it in park and it starts right back. No way to predict when it will happen again

These problem are hard to find until something completely fails..... On these modern cars there are so many things that could cause the problem as the engine is controlled by a computer. If the computer gets an input that is bad or faulty, the ECM might shut off the car. Example, if the engine temp sending unit said the engine temp was 300 degrees, the ECM would shut off the engine, it also could be as simple as a bad connection. However if the car does not have a problem starting.....then it is probably heat never happens until the car get up to operating tempature, then it is probably an electronic component.....somewhere

Frankdant, did they ever find out what was causing your granddaughters Camaro to shut off while driving? We bought our daughter a 2015 Camaro also, last December, well this July I was driving on the interstate, felt a little hesitation, kept driving and when I exit the interstate it killed on me but started right back up. Never did it again until yesterday, October 24th. It died twice when my daughter left for school, came back home and lived up my husband, they drive it, nothing happen. She came home from school no problem, left to go to store, pulling out of parking lot, died again. Been at dealership for 2 full days now and mechanic drive it home last night and tonight. Have not been able to get it to do it again. Can you tell me if your problem was ever discovered?
