I have a 95 Ford mustang and the
battery light just started staying on
also when I disconnect the positive
cable from the battery it dies. What
should I check?

battery light means the charging system is not working. Hook the battery back up and start the car. Measure the voltage by probing the battery with a voltmeter or multi meter it should read 14V, if it's lower than 13V, you need to replace the alternator. You can also have your local auto part store test it for you as well for no charge.
