Most common problem is the fuel pump, when you run less than 1/4 tank of fuel the fuel pump can no longer cool itself properly as it uses the fuel as a coolant, the lower the fuel level the hotter the pump runs, over a period of time this will burn put the pump on its own but if you run the tank dry this messes up the impellers and bearings in the pump itself making it useless, I recommend replacing the pump, filter, and the fuel pump relay to cure the problem, and then keep the tank above the 1/4 mark.
