thinking of buying 1979 chevy van G10 305 for camping

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

Hello! I'm considering buying this vehicle and am wondering if anyone sees any
red flags I should look out for. Body in great shape, mileage is 110,000 km. It
has an camper conversion with extended ceiling. I'm wondering if this was a
factory option or would have been done by one of its owners. Any information
or insights would be much appreciated. Thank you.

GMs of that era, especially trucks and vans, were still good vehicles. This was well before GM went down the toilet in the late '90s! It most likely came from the factory as a camper. Years ago a friend had a Ford Econoline version that was a camper. With something that old I'd highly recommend you get a factory shop manual for it! This vehicle predates onboard computers and fuel injection as we know it today. So the 25 year old mechanic will have absolutely no idea of what he's looking at if something needs to be fixed on it! You can try Ebay or Faxon Auto Literature in Riverside, California for a shop manual. Hope that helps! Jim

Thank you... this is great advice! I bought the vehicle and I'm completely thrilled with it! This is one heavy duty truck, fun to drive with loads of living space.
