Question type: Maintenance & Repair

when i turn the key the check gauge, battery light and check engine light are on and it will start 99% of the time and the lights go off. if the check engine light doesn't come on it doesn't start 99% of the time. the engine turns it just wont start. ive spent $700 at mechanics and no fix. the last one did say it seems like there might be a short in antitheft system. i did buy a new battery too.

If the check engine light does not turn on when you first turn the key on that means the check out programming is not activating, the first thing to check would be the ignition switch itself, make sure all of the connections are active as the should be, then the power relays, but you would need to get lucky and it it be in failure when your looking of a bad one, or I guess you could replace them all. After that all of the ECM powers and ground pathways, this could be very difficult as there are a lot of grounding circuits for the system.
