1993 Jeep Cherokee Clutch/Transmission

I just bought my jeep from an auction in which your
not able to start the car until it's off property. When
I got the chance to start it, it started up easy and
ran fine, but when I tried to put it in any gear it
wouldn't do anything but rev up. Even when I let off
the clutch completely in any gear it wouldn't do
anything. Does that mean that I need a new clutch
or maybe a new transmission? Possibly something
else?
