Brand New battery. Everything comes on. Car won't start

my car died going down the interstate. I put a
brand new battery in it. Everything comes on but
the car will not start

Had the same problem with my corolla... It just cut out completely... After it cooled down it started without problems... Does the starter turn or does it just make click sound... If starter is turning test solonoid, also check if there is spark on spark plugs.... I replaced distributor seeing that everything is part of it... There was carbon built up on converter as well that suggested something wrong and there was no spark on plugs even though they are brand new. Not a mechanic but sounds like problem I had and was there when everything was checked.
1st thing I checked was battery cables. Thank you... That what should be 1st thing to check before anything else... I gave advise backwards. :)
On my 2014 sonata this is a frequent issue. I find that jiggling the shift eventually kicks it into gear.
