Chatter noice

Asked by GuruW8XGR May 17, 2018 at 09:35 AM about the 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 96 grand Cherokee Laredo, I have replaced
all brakes, front wheel bearings, and drained and
filled my differential, so while driving on a straight
it starts chattering the faster I go it seems to be
better, as I slow down it get louder until I come to a
stop! I was wondering maybe it's the CV joints but
it doesn't click while I'm turning! It sounds like a kid
with a pop can in his bike tire!

Possible that it's an alignment issue, sounds crazy but I see it alot. The Jeep doesn't have an adjustment for camber which is usually set negative (around -.45), so try to put a little positive toe (around .15) . So that the front of your tires are a little further apart than the back,

Was it making this noise before replacing the bearings and brakes ? If not check to make sure one of the rotors is not rubbing against the backing plate.
