after I changed my battery

After I changed my v battery my lights and
everything come on but it won't start..

I think this has something to do with reprogramming. They did use a power source plugged into the auxiliary outlet. One thing I hear works is to disconnect the battery, turn on the head lights for about 30 seconds, then hook the battery back up then try starting it.
