Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i have a 99 jeep grand cherokee laredo. 136k miles. 4.0 inline.  i have no idea what caused these problems.  i start it, no problems. start driving, get to 15-20 mph. e-brake warning light and abs light turn on. speedometer goes crazy bouncing from 0-120. (rpm gauge unaffected).  turn on main headlights. speedometer stops moving and stays at 0. brake and abs stay on.  wipers turn on every few minutes very random, no apparent pattern.

thats real weird.. Do you ever wheel it in dirt or mudd? or are you around snow? I would check your ABS sensors on each wheel and make sure they are clean. That could cause the speedo, break light and abs light problems.. i dunno bout the wipers tho..

it hasnt been in mud since ive owned it, but it has been on its fair share of trails. it also started to act up about a week after i had it on the sand dunes.

yeah i'd pull out your ABS wires and clean them out.. they mount to each wheel and there is a plug at the "frame" rail .. you can just unplug them there and unscrew them from each brake and make sure they are good and clean... I had my brake light flash and stuff and then eventually my abs light come on and it's cause i pinched my abs wires in between my long arms and tires when i turned.. i spliced the wires back together and it works fine now...

well judging from the speedo problem it could be a speed sensor your not having any problems with it shifting or anything
