2001 Jeep Cherokee - How do you replace the cabin air filter

Asked by Gordo2 Dec 29, 2008 at 11:14 PM about the 2001 Jeep Cherokee

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Where is the cabin air filter on a 2001 Jeep Cherokee and how do you change it? I was told it is under the dash-board that must be removed to change the filter.

wrong. open the hood. look on the passenger side of the firewall behind the coolant reservoir. there should be a panel that says cabin air filter, but even if not, use a little common sense and find the only panel in this general area. remove this panel, and then remove the filter. my advice though, is dont do it at all. they're stupid and dont need to be replaced.

Melanie, actually if you have that dead trench foot smell in your car, its mold found on the cabin air filter.

If this is still live, only the Grand Cherokee has a cabin filter. The classic Cherokee (XJ) DOES NOT HAVE ONE!

My 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee's cabin filter is located where Melanie's pictures shows. Outside the vehicle. Open hood, that piece between the windshield and the engine bay screws off. voila, there it is.

They say no one came standard but I had both under the hood and in the car behind the glove box just like I had two fans and if you have to change the water pump what's thermostat pay to have it done okay whatever they want you don't want to do that job unless you have a 41 mm wrench hanging around I did it's the largest one I have and I have a lot
