My 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts, runs for a second, then quits. Gauges
do not activate. Problem?

Are you using a key that you had made? This is what happened to me when I tried to start my 2006 Commander using a key that didn't have the electronic chip in it.

If you can get a code reader on the car, that might help. Most common causes for an engine to die right after starting are idle air control valve system, MAP/MAF sensor, engine coolant temperature sensor, faulty ignition coil, and maybe the fuel pump or its relay.
