Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

We wanted to buy this 2014 Silverado,
but we researched branded titles and it
is a fleet vehical. It also has a car fax .
Car City said that the previous owner
had just miss marked the checkbox on
title. No company is gonna just trade
off a truck with 24,000 miles on It? I
feel we have been lied to.A wrong
check box marking  can be fixed by
filling out an odometer form. They also
told us it was a one owner vehical. That
turns out to be a lie. We would be the
third owner. Come on be for real ?
What's Really wrong  with this truck? I
need an honest dealership who will sell
me a car and tell me straight up front
what's wrong from the get go. This
vehihical will greatly depreciate & won't
be worth a thing on a trade in . No one I
know wants a branded or a fleet truck. I
won't pay any more than 9,000 for it .
It's  had 3 owners not one. I don't like
dishonesty. I'm just glad I found out by
vin number search before I put up cash
and before I signed papers . What
would you do? Consumers need to
know. They didn't even post right
picture mine was black they posted a
red one.

What kind of fleet vehicle was it? Six thousand miles per year is low mileage. Especially for a "fleet" vehicle. A fleet vehicle can mean a rent a car, police or taxi, company delivery vehicle (miles are too low for that though), a company executive's personal use vehicle, etc. I wouldn't call it the kiss of death. But I would investigate it further if you're still interested in it. Sometimes a company will trade or sell a vehicle based only on age and/or mileage. When I was shopping for a personal limousine I looked at one that was 10 years old. It was a "fleet" vehicle in that it was company owned. The car was the company owner's personal limousine and in addition to using it for his personal transportation it was used to shuttle clients to and from the airport and hotels. Company policy was once a vehicle was 10 years old it was sold or traded, no matter what. There was nothing wrong with the car but I didn't buy it because it had a Northstar engine without any evidence of the head gaskets being done yet. It was actually a beautiful car! Sometimes dealers are required to take possession of the title while the vehicle is in their inventory. New Jersey is like that. It could be that this happened and the vehicle history report company is counting that as an owner when it's really not a new owner. I've also found errors on vehicle history reports. Twice I found that a vehicle had been reported stolen. I reported it and the matter was investigated by the authorities. It was an error both times. So mistakes do happen on a vehicle history report. They're not perfect. HTH. -Jim

It sounds sketchy so I would walk away. If you can prove that the car dealer lied to you, I would contact the Better Business Bureau and post appropriate feedback on Google. Do not post information that you can not prove. Jim is correct mistakes do happen, but if you can't tie up the loose ends, walk away.

I would walk away, and also I would add that if you're looking for a dealership to be upfront with you about issues with their vehicles on the lot, you'll be looking a long time.
