Ford Fiesta transmission

Asked by Vanessa Oct 30, 2018 at 12:11 AM about the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just test drove an automatic 2013 Ford Fiesta.
Noticed the car rolls when in reverse (on
reasonable incline). Is this normal for this vehicle?
Have had other cars that haven’t done this - want
to make sure not purchasing a problem.

Hi, the North American Ford Fiesta uses a Power Shift dual clutch transmission. Technically, it works like an automatic, but it can behave like a manual on step inclines and during take off (when it can hesitate a bit if you don't give it enough gas). I have the same kind of car (a 2011) and the 3 years/30K miles I've driven it have been trouble free, you just need to get used to the transmission. It will also come with Hill Assist so if you firm press on the brake before putting D or R, it will hold on the brakes forabout 3 seconds while you step on the gas. If the transmission doesn't make any grinding noises and provides quick gear changes, it should be fine, but I would always ask for the CARFAX first (like on any car).
