Flashing engine light

Hi I have a 96 Thunderbird that has a
flashing engine light can I use a jumper wire
to check the codes if so how exactly do I do
it thank you

Only if you have an OBDi system. '96 was the start of OBDii. Is there a port under the dash, under the steering wheel? Then it's OBDii. A local auto parts store can scan it for you for free.
