Anybody have a guess as to why the oil light flickers at idle?

Could be low oil pressure.

Oil pressure at idle is always lower than when running. When the engine gets worn out or has a defect in the oil system, like a worn pump or pressure valve, oil pressure at idle can be so low that it shows up on the sensor. You might also be low on oil: check it.
