2013 Sorento engine seized

Asked by GuruYNJNR Jun 12, 2019 at 10:34 AM about the 2013 Kia Sorento

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We bought our 2013 Kia Sorento in
December 2018 (6 months ago). At the time
we bought it, all safety recalls had been
completed. This Thursday the engine seized.
Long story short we are towing it from the
garage to the dealership with the hope that
we can get it covered under the recall notice
since the powertrain warranty will only cover
the first owner and the engine will only be
fixed/replaced if it is proven to have rod
bearing damage specific to the recall. The
car only has 76,000 miles.

I’m getting some conflicting reports online
about engines being replaced even for
second owners. Can anyone link me to info
that can help me pressure the dealership to
get this fixed so I don’t have to make 5k
mysteriously appear to make our new car run
aka to help Kia do the right thing!?!

Happened to us on our 2013 Kia serento! Had about the same amount of miles! Towed it to a dealer seems they had a faulty engine recall on certain 4 cylinders! They inspected fo a day and they winded up putting in a new engine in ours! Stay on them they have faulty engines out there call there main KIA number if you don’t get resolution! Hope this helps!!
