lost power, overheating, smoke out the tailpipe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought a car I was told the only thing wrong
with it was it needed was the the rod replaced and
the heater core wasn't working. I drove it for a
month then suddenly a few days ago it felt like it
lost a little power then it started over heating. all of
a sudden it stopped doing it for a day but the next
day it lost all power white smoke came out of the
tale pipe so I pulled over and noticed smoke
comming from the hood. I shut it off let it cool
down(which my gage didn't show that it was
overheating) when it cooled down I tried starting it
again but it wouldn't start. I was told that it's a
1996 Ford trays with a 1995 engine

Sounds like the head gasket blew, common on these right along with weak transmissions.
