Strut and Alignments

Asked by Feb 10, 2016 at 09:17 PM about the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a Chevy Malibu 2013 Eco. I recently hit train tracks and needed a front end alignment and brought it to the dealership to be fixed. Then I was told the right from strut was bent and needed a new one. Is the strut something that can be visually seen? Or can they tell it is bent when they hook it up to the machine before starting the alignment? Because I paid for one alignment and do not want to pay for another if it should have been noticed before doing the alignment.

Yes you can see the strut and I would hope that they would have inspected the suspension before performing the alignment. At the very least they should offer a discount on the second alignment.

Ok, thank you! They didn't tell me the strut was bad until they finished the alignment and came and got me. And I asked if another alignment would have to be done and if I would have to pay and they said yes.

If they knowingly did an alignment with a bad strut then they owe you a free alignment next time.
