Question type: Maintenance & Repair

They ask when I bring my Sonata in for an oil change and I don't know the difference.  Which is recommended.

Conventional oil is the cheapest, but it also breaks down in your engine the fastest, which is why car manufacturers suggest an oil change every 3,000 miles. Synthetic blend is a 50/50 mix of conventional and full synthetic. It is a little more expensive and will get you about 4,500 miles between oil changes before the conventional half breaks down. Full synthetic is the most expensive (and what I run). It offers the most lubrication for your moving engine parts for the longest amount of time, getting about 7,000 miles between oil changes. You can run any oil you'd like, it any vehicle (except for some sports cars, which demand full synthetic only, and are clearly labeled on the oil fill cap) it all boils down to, how much do you want to spend and how often do you plan to get your oil changed. Once you figure out which one you want to run, stick with that. It is not recommended to flop around from one to another all the time. Also if you're planning on switching from one extreme to the other I would suggest running one cycle of synthetic blend in between to help ease your engine into the change. I hope this helps you with your decision, have an awesome day!

I would read your owners manual for the factory recommendations. Most if not all car manufacturers now recommend full synthetic. I go 5,000 miles on a synthetic oil change but I plan on keeping my car 200,000+ miles.

Hyundai recommends that you use Quaker State conventional v 2530 or 10:30 or a synthetic blend they make no mention of using synthetic
