Replacing timing belt on 1996 Ford Ranger with 2.3 engine.
Loosened bolt on tension pulley and cannot get the tension pulley moved back to position
where the belt will go on. Wondered if it could have place for pull handle maybe in the
middle of the pulley. It has a cover in the middle but can't tell if it suppose to come off.
How do i get the tension off where I can install belt?
Believe that the tension pully has a bolt that holds it fixed, and needs loosened to pivot it away, snut it to hold it. When the belt in on, then loosen the bolt, it should tension itself, then torque it.
Thanks for the reply. The bolt on the tensioner is loose yet it will not move back to the left to let off the tension. No way to prize it over. I wondered if there was some special way of moving it back over to get belt on. I would have thought it would have had a place to put in ratchett or pull handle to get tension off. No way to prize it to non tension position.
I seem to remember two, one it pivots on, and one other to tighten the slide. Its spring loaded as I remember.
Loosen the bolt holding the spring just a little
