Thanks - I am a typical women driver so dont know the inns and outs of cars im afraid, I am just bothered that the dealer is saying it could be driver error and when they look at the clutch by taking it apart (??) we get charged for it - but it happens to both me and my partner intermittently so I am thinking more that should be looked at under warranty - the car is only 9 mths old - and if we cant get it into reverse easily then both items might be related as it seems both point to the clutch. Many thanks for the low gear info also, will try that also

you SHOULD be able to shift into rev with no grinding. If you are getting a schreeching noise, it may be pilot shaft bushing. This bushing goes into back of crankshaft to support the input shaft of tramnsission. So lets assume its dry, the input shaft would continue to spin because bushing is sticking to it. then when you get trans. into gear, bushing would screech untill you release clutch. Is this what you are having happen?

I noticed the screeching today, and it does go away when I release the clutch. What should I do?

Would this also cause the car to shake some when in too high of a gear?
