if the amp meter has a short that may kill the circuit , don't remember why it's just the way they are ,

Right I remember a lot of Dodges that had an amp meter burn out and they would crank and fire up but die the second the key was returned to run, replaced the amp meter with a volt meter and spliced the main amp gauge wire together and no more trouble. But I would still check the ignition switch for proper setting when in the run position cause if it is off even a little it won't run.

Thanks! I will try this. My son drove it up into the shop and changed the carb and it hasn't ran since!
