My ETC light came on could it be the battery?

Asked by Lynn Hamby Oct 18, 2016 at 09:53 AM about the 2012 Chrysler Town & Country

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

ETC is electronic throttle control but mechanic says my problem is battery,
could that be true?  Because car would turn over, dash lights come on and all
, just not start and ETC symbol came up!

Yes it could happen if the battery was removed or if you have low voltage on the battery, see if you have 12 volts. it the battery is good try to remove fuse #11 and this may reset it. If the light comes on again you may has an issue wit the throttle body itself. You can clean it with a good throttle body cleaner to see if that solves the problem.

A battery is about a $100 and many autoparts stores will install it for free. If your battery is 3 or more years old it may be going bad. Do clean the terminals and battery connectors.

You better keep off all crysler models, they are just useless cars.alot of stupid issues.I hit my signal and all gauges stop working, they argue is burnt fuse, this is my last car to buy from this dealership.

2012 T&C battery was fine, fuel half full, but suddenly wouldn't turn over or start and the Electronic Throttle Control (ETC) light came on. To re-calibrate accelerator and throttle position sensors, with foot off brake, I pressed the start button to put it in accessory mode, SLOWLY depressed the accelerator pedal ALL the way and then VERY SLOWLY released it. Pressed the brake pedal, then the start button and it started normally with no more ETC light.

need some help. I have a 2015 T&C, the throttle light suddenly came on and the van suddenly jerked forward at a stop, hitting the vehicle in front. Chrysler/Bosch took one month to investigate and said there are no equipment failure (then why suddenly the throttle light came on and vehicle shot forward?). Anyone with similar experiences?

W have a 2016 T&C. Worst vehicle ever. When looking for a new car in the future a Chrysler product isn't an option. Do they make these things in China?

I worked on a 2008 town country and the throttle body shorted out. I replaced it and shorted that out 2 days later. After ripping apart the system i found water had entered the pcm connectors under the drivers side fender and shorted out the circuit as well as corroded the connections. Needed a new pcm, soldered a new pigtail connector on the wire harness and replaced throttle body.

Exactly what happened to me today. Car engine wouldn’t start but console lights, radio started. Friend disconnected and reconnected battery cable and started right up. Drove to an AutoZone to test the battery and sure enough it was bad. New battery installed and started right up.
