Reduced engine power

Asked by Mar 14, 2019 at 01:07 PM about the 2012 Chevrolet Impala

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2012 Impala has been giving me the same
trouble for the past 2 years. The car will at random
start to kind of chug. It will sound like it's losing
power. Then it will go into reduced power mode
and check engine light comes on. The service
stability track and check brakes also comes on. It
will eventually die completely usually at a stop. If I
give it some gas or put in neutral I can sometimes
keep it going. After I turn the key to shut off it will
run for a few more seconds. There is a delay there
but only when it's running rough. It only happens in
spring and summer months. So weird. I brought to
Chevy dealership but no luck getting it fixed.
Nobody can figure this out.

The ECM was changed and Accel sensor. Changed
filters. Brakes done. Not sure what to do.

Try replacing E-85 FlexFuel with ethanol fuel. Mine was doing the same thing as yours until I quit using that fuel. Chevy service bulletin from 4/18 recommends this and replacement of any part already gunked up (which thankfully I haven’t needed to do).

Which gas did you replace? Would dealership replace damaged parts for free?
