Engine specifications on mystery engine

Asked by ShelbyMustang101 Jun 09, 2019 at 10:18 AM about the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2012 Hyundai Sonota. It was part of a huge recall, the engine failed
and was replaced by the dealership. The told me they replaced the short
block, but in reality the entire engine. My old sonota takes 4.9 qts oil. This one
takes almost a quart more. I need to know the specs for the engine in the car.
This is a manual transmission with 6 forward gears.

Maybe the original engine design did not hold enough oil, leading to engine failure. This engine may be the "improved version" allowing for more oil capacity and/or a larger oil pump by increasing the volume of the oil pan. Many newer engines hold six quarts or more. Just a guess.

To give you a reason for recall is unrelated please help with cross referencing engines that will exchange with engine but have larger oil capacity. History on car- was one of the first engines manufactured in Alabama entire engine micrometer was off a thousandths andmetal Shavings caused engine failure. Look at vin on new engine and help me go from there

Ok thanks for your help. I will get back to you with the results. A little about me/ auditor who believes in trust but verify. As a consumer I feel deceived. I should have been told and instead they paperwork Says “half block’ that is not a half block. this is my third Hyundai. It has another recall (high pressure fuel line damage from replacing engine, will, take it into Hyundai dealership. I will run alternate research that can see more on what engines crosswalk to my vin #

Last 8 of vin for my vehicle is CH389432 have recall 18V-934 in hand. I want to know the answers (what engine is in my car?) before it goes in for the recall work. It might have the wrong spark plugs based on what the hood says./ just saying, cars area serious hobby
