I do not think your trunk has anything to do with starting the car. You probably have a weak battery or starter

http://troubleshootmyvehicle.com/gm/3.8L/how-to-test-the-starter- motor-3 Find a good link for your type of vvehicle, this is a good basic one for many....remember to clean battery connections, and get a free load test and charging system check at an Autopart store.

Hey I have a 2012 Cruze I bought mine brand new. It lives in the garage so it's in excellent condition. Today the lights came on but nothing happened when I turned the key, it's a 6speed manual. I read this and went to try that, I popped the trunk with the key fob and shut the lid and then she just barely turned over but she did!!! Who'da thunk! So I guess since she's 6 years old it's time for a new battery. Will confirm but thanks for this genious trick!
