Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have changed the oil pressure switch and it still does the jumping around, my truck a  ford explorer sport v6 4.0 the engine at times seems to be running a bit rougher than usual. I have though of everything except replacing the oil pump itself.  Is there anything else that could be causing this, i see no oil leaks and the fluid is full, except of course changing the pump

Have you put a manual gauge on it yet and checked oil pressure? It could be the gauge malfuctioning.

no not yet, would a failing gauge cause the engine to run rough. I have lost power at times when the gauge bottom out, i was told that it could be oil build up, from the previous owner lack of oil changes. That the screen could be clogged up,

I'm going to change my oil and see what happens next.. I don't drive much, and it's not even been a year. Dumb mechanic failed to put a sticker on it when they did a "complete" change out after my 99 Explorer was in storage for about 2 years. So, we'll see what happens.
