1996 Ford escort stick shift

Asked by Jul 28, 2018 at 03:45 PM about the 1996 Ford Escort

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1996 Ford escort (manual) is having trouble
shifting. I move the stick into first gear and it gets
stuck at 1000 to 1500 rpms and then chugs a little.
After about 20 seconds to a minute if this it acts
normal until I stop or change gears, then it starts
the problem all over again. I took it to AutoZone
and the guy there said I might need transmission
fluid, but he couldn't find where to check it. Idk how
to go about.
