Trouble shifting while going up hill

Asked by Danner2000 Apr 18, 2020 at 09:51 PM about the 2011 Ford F-150

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2011 f150 xlt and recently I noticed while driving
up hill it basically refuses to go from 4th to 5th gear.  Also
3rd to 4th is sticky but it will eventually make that shift.
The RPMS are around 2500 the whole time.   Any ideas as
to what may cause this?

5th gear may be too much for your hills. When was the last time you changed the ATF?

Never had a problem until recently, they are just small hills I pass over daily on my way to work. To my knowledge it was changed when I purchased the truck. The dealer stated all fluids had been changed and stopped off which would have been 3 years ago this October. From what I've read it should he changed roughly every 30k miles. I've put on a little over 20k in 3 years.

Maybe shift solenoids? I would have a transmission shop diagnose it.

Kinda what I was thinking, I have an appointment with a shop Tuesday, just have to take it easy until then so I don't break anything further. Much appreciated :)
