Electrical issue on 2011 Nissan xterra

Asked by Dec 02, 2017 at 01:33 PM about the 2011 Nissan Xterra

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We accidentally left a tire pump in cigarette lighter
over night.  Since then car won't start.  I have
purchased a new battery with the old one being
7yrs old thinking that would fix the problem, but it
has not.  New battery is drained dry as well after
one night.  Took it to Orielys and was told it was a
bad starter after they hooked up their tool to my
xterra and asked me to try to start it.  Was going to
change starter, but before I did that I wanted to do
some more problem solving.  I can jump the car
with ease.  With the car off, if I turn on the
headlights, the instrument panel pointers all start
vibrating till everything goes dead again.  The
lights in the car work, so it is getting electricity.  Is
is the starter or is it something else?
