My 2011 Kia Sedona (Diesel) cranks but won't start

Asked by tonymc7 Apr 03, 2016 at 09:34 AM about the 2011 Kia Sedona

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My fan belt (it's actually the water pump, power steering & alternator belt)
broke.
After replacing the belt I have a check engine light on, the engine will crank
over but will not start.
I'm thinking there may be some electrical protection (possibly from the
alternator not turning while the engine was still running) that may need to be
reset.
Is there a simple reset to get the check engine light to turn off or do I need to
take it to my local dealer?

What actually happened was that a piece of the multi purpose belt got inside the timing cover & caused the camshaft timing belt to slip a tooth. Hopefully this will be helpful for somebody in the future
