What would be the fuel consumption of a fairly maintained 1993 BMW 520i? And is it essential to convert the air cooling system for the present R134 type refrigerant?

You should get 16-17 city and 22-23 hwy, slightly better with manual transmission. If you take your car in to get service on A/C system they have to convert it over per EPA standards.
