BMW 325 transmission replacement

Asked by Feb 16, 2017 at 12:26 AM about the 2004 BMW 3 Series

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Dealer says transmission needs to be
replaced on 2004 325i for $8000 and I
should get rid of it. But they replaced fuel
tank under warranty while doing
diagnostic. Are they playing me?

probably , you can take it to a foreign car independent shop ,it says BMW but it's still the same nuts , bolts and system as any other car . Tranny is bad when you don't shift out of 1st . I was just talking to someone about her oil pan ,the dealer said they had to remove it to see if it was bad , I told her it's bad when there's a hole in it and it leaks . Also hear on forums like this how people get jerked from un-reputable shops all the time .

Yes, to the above. Shouldn't be $8K. If you need the trans rebuilt, your talking $2-5K, have an independent BMW shop around you take a look at it. The dealer just wants you to buy a new vehicle, and or pick up the '04 as clean ones are getting harder to find.

I used trans with warranty is around 2500 to 3k that's about how much are independent BMW shop charges.
