BMW 325 transmission replacement

Dealer says transmission needs to be
replaced on 2004 325i for $8000 and I
should get rid of it. But they replaced fieal
tank under warranty while doing
diagnostic. Are they playing me?

Yes , sounds like, try a gear oil change, most BMW gearbox problems are around oil and filter. Go to a good independent BMW guy to do it, also get him to code the gearbox on his computer.

There may have been a recall on the fuel tank. If the dealership says it needs a transmission then it may need just that. The only option would be taking your car to an independent shop that specializes in German car repair for a second opinion.

OP probably have the BMW that is an SULEV, which covers the fuel tank when the pump goes.
