High mileage, 2011 Jeep Cherokee, 168,000, 7,900

Asked by GuruSWLJX May 18, 2019 at 02:38 PM about the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Thank you for your opinions.  I have never owned a Jeep. My Highlander
went 230,000, but I cannot afford anything like that again. Being single, I
cannot have a vehicle with issues. It leaves me with no transportation and
totally dependent on others,  What do I look for specifically when I go look
at the vehicle? I believe it is 1 owner, I happen to know of them. So nervous,
haven't had a car without a warranty to fall back on. Any thoughts and
opinions are welcome.

I would not buy it. If you decide to proceed have a mechanic check it out top to bottom before buying it. Factor in how long you expect it to last, the annual miles you drive and the loan term to see if it will outlast the payments!

Mi Jeep Grand Cherokee 2012 has 203,504 miles on the original engine l, battery and transmission. No major repair or even a tune up was done. I did change the transmission fluid around $186.000 just for the mileage sake . I will definitely be buying another Jeep when this one is done.

Also I had a 1995 grand Cherokee limited. Inline 6 and it had 250,000 miles when I mistakenly sold it to a police officer months after he saw me and said: Malcolm, you’re an honest man, the Jeep is still working fine as you said. I guess I’m lucky with Jeeps I guess. I can’t wait to buy a TRACK HAWK one day fir fun

More importantly, I do step on my gas like a race car driver. I get into second gear most times around 2000 RPM. I deliberately pay attention to take care of my transmission. I even make sure I let the parking brake secure the vehicle when parked even in a slope, before putting it in park, just to preserve the tranny mounts. My Jeep does not jerk on gear shifting at all although I’m at 200,494 and going strong
