Front Windshield Defroster Not Heating
My front windshield defroster will blow, but only cold air. What could the
problem be and can a novice repair it?
Do you have heat from the floor and chest level vents?
bad heating coil, or no heating coil, or the ac unit is out.
I don't believe I had any heat from any of the vents, but windshield was the most noticeable.
i also just had the radiator replaced, would this have any effect on the heater?
You may have a bad heater core. If it is the same age as the radiator, it may be partially clogged. With the new radiator, it may not be getting proper flow. Or, the system could be a little low on coolant.
1. If you're getting no heat at all, or only a minimal level, check radiator coolant level. Really low coolant can prevent it from heating the core properly; a failed thermostat will act similarly. An air bubble in a heater line can block fluid passage..... 2. If you're getting heat then the problem is in the delivery system. The ductwork has blend doors that move to get the temperature to the vent where you want it. Could be that one of the blend doors is sticking because the door actuator is defective. You may have noticed a tapping sound under the dash from a defective actuator. There are probably three doors/actuators. Check to see which are not moving as you adjust the heat or remove them to see if there's a broken sprocket. One or more might need replacing. It's not a difficult fix for a novice.
The passenger side is heating, but not the drivers side. They are thinking its the blend doors.
