2011 Camry shuts off while driving

Asked by Mar 16, 2018 at 08:00 AM about the 2011 Toyota Camry

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car was stuck in the snow, kept going
back and forth, was kinda rough in the
motor and tranny, now the check
engine light stays on and the traction
indicator comes on while driving. After
about 16 minutes of driving it stalls, I
can restart it but it will stall again after
10 minutes or so unless I keep the
rpms up when I slow down coming to
an intersection.

Since the check engine light is on, you can scan for the fault codes to see what sensor is tripping it to come on. This might then tell you what you issue is.

How do I scan for fault codes?

Just a guess, you can confirm with the fault code, but sounds like a transmission converter issue. It is locking up at idle. hence being able to have it running in park and neutral , but stall in gear. So it might be the converter itself or the lock solenoid that is giving you the problem.

Go to any auto parts store, they will use a scanner to check the codes.
