Toyota Highlander VSC & Check Engine light

Asked by Jul 29, 2018 at 10:57 AM about the 2010 Toyota Highlander

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just a reply to the many questions asked about this.  Had
same experience 7/28/18 driving on I95 to south FL.  250
miles into the drive both VSC and check engine light
come on in my 2010 Highlander.  Totally freaked me out
thinking the worst obviously.  Pulled out the manual,
called my service tech back in GA...he also mentioned
could be loose gas cap.  Stopped 25 miles later to top off
the tank and make sure cap was on tightly...light still on.
Head on to my destination and plan to go to Toyota
dealership the next morning, but then change my mind to
go to Auto Zone or other auto parts store.  WELL, when I
get in my car the next morning (and reading the
comments on this page) I look down and NEITHER light is
on. Hmmm...maybe tightening gas cap helped?  I do
recall shortly before the lights came on yesterday, I went
through a hellacious heavy rain storm on the interstate.
Could be related?  I don’t know, but seems a strange
coincidence.  Regardless I’ll have checked out by my
mechanic when I get back home.  Just want to say that I
really appreciate this site and all that have contributed
their questions and comments.  It truly helps when we
share our experiences.  Thanks bunches!
