How to remove rear door from 2010 Toyota Sienna

Asked by Kathleen Oct 17, 2015 at 08:44 PM about the 2010 Toyota Sienna

Question type: General

The lock is jammed with a piece of rope that I used to pull down the rear door.
Door will not open.  No way that I know of to relieve the pressure except to lift
up on the door itself/remove it to an extent.

Unfortunately, the door must be open to get to the hinges to remove. The thing is in a 2010 - not yet 6 years old.... is this from an impact - as in a smash-em-up on the road? In that case it's an insurance issue. The again if you have it paid for and dropped everything except liability, then if you are in a "no-fault" State, go after the other guy. If you are in a 'fault' State still, call your insurance Company and ask for help.

I was not paying attention -- Sienna --- hatchback door or side rear door? My response changes if you used rope to hold it closed with a load that would not quite fit

REAR door (by tailpipe) cannot be opened. The latch for that door is jammed with cotton rope. When attempting to open, it immediately does back into 'lock', presumable due to pressure between the two pieces of locking mechanism. Other than trying to burn the rope, it seems that if I could move the rear hatch/door up a few inches, I could get at the problem and remove it from the lock. Clear as mud? Thanks in advance.

It doesn't matter WHAT is jamming the lock - could be a plastic bag or something, but it's clearly jammed.
