battery dead but odometer us flashing? why?

The car wont start and it seems the battery is dead.  However, the odometer is flashing
and there is a clicking noise associated with the flashing.  Why! Will replacing the battery
fix the problem?

Try jump starting first if it run,s and holds a charge your good if not,then go for the new battery.

But there can also be and underlying problem,alternator bad not charging battery,but you can test that by removing positive cable while running the car ,if it cuts off check alternator. Good luck with this
