Is it customary to align the front end of a Chevy Malibu after a new transmission is put in?

Asked by Guru9KBP3 Jul 10, 2017 at 04:23 PM about the 2010 Chevrolet Malibu

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Steering wheel is not level after the transmission job.  Shouldn't it be just like it was prior to the transmission replacement?

Like any front wheel drive vehicle, you have to drop or at least lower the engine cradle (aka subframe), which means loosening and hanging the brakes and suspension components that attach to it in order to lower or remove the subframe. So it's possible to cause an alignment issue if they did not restore everything properly. Take it back with your complaint, they may send you to an alignment shop on their dime.
