Can a person do something to a car to make it over heat?

My ex and one of his buddy were caught messing with my car now it over
heats there is no leak ,radiator is topped off what could they done and
transmission seem to be having an hard time sifting.

When it overheats, the engine and transmission get hot, and that will effect the shifting. Have the coolant system checked and cylinder pressure. If they drove the car hard, it might have be enough for a part that was weak, that it now failed.
